I watched a few peoples videos and realized there is a huger difference in tape, and carpet tape is not meant to come off as easy and the main thing people hate about two sided tape is the goo, and if you have the right tape made for temporary hold down, it comes off very nicely. Jonathan Katz-Moses sums up my reasons for liking double sided tape better than blue tape pretty well here: Double Sided Tape VS The Blue Tape Trick - YouTube At about the same time I got a comment on one of my videos suggesting the blue tape/CA glue method, which I’ve tried and never liked. Then my roll ran out and I tried one from Home Depot and it was a horrible gooey mess. I could find white removable adhesive strips (Tesa brand) but that would be too conspicuous.I had been using carpet tape from Lowes as a two sided tape for hold downs. It has to be gray/black or transparent, of course. I don't mind removing some adhesive with rubbing alcohol, but I'd rather never have to remove the foam stuff again. Now, when I'm putting the cams into my new car, I'd like to use something that comes off more easily, preferrably in one piece. All in all it took an hour and a half to get rid of the tape of the front camera, and another half hour for the (much smaller) tape of the rear camera. Couldn't really scrape anything off except if I applied some alcohol first, after which I could use an old bank card to scrape off just a bit of foam tape, before it needed more alcohol. That took about two hours of intense scrubbing. I've done everything as recommended everywhere: apply heat, saw through the pad with dental floss, scrape off the rest with the help of pure isopropyl alcohol.
And they're black (well, dark gray), so they look good.īut now that I'm switching cars, I discovered a real issue: removing the pads is a lot of hard work. They're good, very good, never moved a bit, whether in heat or freezing cold. When I got the Thinkware F800 Pro, I just used the adhesive pads that came with it.
